Services
I build websites that work. From start to finish, they’re created to look good and work great—and they’re priced affordably for small businesses and organisations, too.
These are the core services I provide:
- All-new website or web application: if you want a new design with all the advantages of websites that work, built in from the ground up.
- Website makeover: if you don’t need a complete rebuild, but want to improve success rates with a new design, revised focus and better usability.
- Code for your design: if you have a design mockup and want to get a findability and performance boost with top-quality handcrafted code.

Websites that work
The websites and apps I build have a rather different focus to what you may be used to, centered on objectives and content rather than design. They’re websites that aim to:
- Provide people with the information they need
- Earn their living through great content rather than flashy design
- Persuade people to buy your product, whether it’s widgets, services or anything else.
How do I do it? The difference starts right at the beginning of the project, and continues all the way through:
- Start each project by understanding what you want to achieve
- Recognise that people visit your site for your content, not your design
- Use best practices to work with search engines for findability
- Apply usability principles to keep users out of difficulty and on the right track
Price guide
Creating a website that works is built around your needs and objectives for the project. Instead of a one-size-fits-all standard price, we’ll work out the scope of the project together, then I’ll provide a fixed quote for the agreed scope. Here are a few examples:
- Holiday cottage website needing a new design and the existing content optimised for the web. Integrate a photo-blog hosted on a third-party service. Mobile-internet-friendly for people who want directions. 6-8 weeks, £900.
- Small business using a website to advertise its products needs online sales integrating with existing product information. Realign/refocus the site features and design to better promote the new role, within the context of existing branding. About 4 months, £2200.
- Charitable organisation needs a new informational & promotional site. Includes a news section, a discussion blog and a dedicated online shop, plus an integrated content management system. Develop and web-optimise content and future content creation processes for the new site. About 6 months, £4500.
One more thing
Well, a few more things, actually—with any website project, I can also provide:
- Hosting: your new site will need somewhere to live. I can provide hosting on carbon-neutral, commercial-grade servers.
- Maintenance & updates: not everyone has time to keep their website updated—but every site benefits from fresh content. (Even just your new catalogue!) I can add updates for you and carry out ongoing maintenance at the same time.
- Stats & Analysis: it’s helpful to know what visitors are doing and how your site’s performing. I can bring sense out of often-complicated statistics systems, and advise on improvements too.
